Families for Responsible School Leadership is a grassroots Political Action Committee dedicated to supporting strong, accountable leadership in public education starting here in Southern California. Education is a gateway that can open or close doors to future generations. No child’s education is more or less important than another, so leaders in education should fight for every child’s right to learn as they learn best.
Every dollar helps to ensure qualified and competent educational leaders are in office throughout Southern California. Together we can support the dreams of our students though high quality, accountable educational leadership. Your support empowers us to advocacy, campaigns, legal action, and outreach to defend our students and choice in education.
Our school boards should be focused on educating our students, not using their seat as a platform for higher office while allowing staff to run amok behind the scenes.
From national media coverage to local editorials, districts like Santa Ana Unified have become case studies in failed leadership and oversight. They point to repeated failures in fiscal oversight, student safety, and transparency ranging from questionable trustee perks amid massive budget deficits to inadequate responses to violence, sexual abuse, and controversial curriculum decisions.
This pattern of dysfunction points to a deeper issue: school boards lacking the experience, perspective, and focus required to responsibly manage large public institutions. Too often, trustees have acted more as followers of staff agendas than leaders accountable to the community. Whether it's mishandling curriculum decisions, failing to safeguard students, or prioritizing politics over student outcomes, the consequences are now undeniable. With hundreds of teacher layoffs and statewide declining enrollment, leaders face a defining choice: continue funding lawyers and failed initiatives or refocus on classrooms, collaboration, and the core mission of public education.
